Karen Shore is the Founder and Principal of Upstream Strategies.
In the past year, clients have included a federal public health agency, a state department of health, a health department for a major US city, a Fortune 50 healthcare organization, a state department of agriculture, cooperative extension, a mayoral office, a community development organization, and an NGO.
Karen Shore, MPH, spent 7 years as a director at a national nonprofit, where she was responsible for the vision, strategy, fundraising, and leadership of multiple teams spanning several cities. She has designed and led numerous healthy food access program and policy efforts in rural and urban areas in nearly 40 states, and has led the strategic planning of major food initiatives and investments for private companies and philanthropies. Prior, she spent a decade in management consulting, leading a multiple award-winning public health consulting practice for Booz Allen Hamilton in Rockville, MD, working with public health agencies and healthcare corporations to build innovative business systems.
With deep grassroots and programmatic expertise blended with years of experience providing strategic consulting services to diverse government, corporate, and philanthropic organizations, Karen has an unparalleled cross-sector partner network at the federal, state, and local community level. Karen served two terms as a board member for her local community-owned grocery store and volunteers as a farmers market manager. She holds an MPH from Johns Hopkins and a BA from Smith College.
